Hand-harvested by our trusted family of licensed beekeepers, each batch of our honey is independently certified to ensure quality and authenticity.
At Waitahanui Apiaries, we believe in raw, unaltered, potent, and traceable honey. Our apiaries are located on the mineral-rich volcanic land surrounding the majestic Great Lake Taupō. Generations of care for this pristine native bush have resulted in honey that is unmatched in purity, strength, and flavour.
Our operations are based on certified organic native bush blocks surrounding Lake Taupō, in the central plateau of New Zealand’s North Island. We manage and care for 500 hives, ensuring that each jar of honey is produced with the highest level of respect for the land and the bees.
Our honey is harvested from a range of native New Zealand botanicals such as Kamahi, Rewarewa, Kanuka, and Mānuka trees. To preserve the natural nutritional benefits, we always jar our honey raw, without pasteurisation.
Each jar of Waitahanui Apiaries honey is a testament to our commitment to quality and sustainability. We offer a variety of honey types, each with its own unique flavour profile, reflecting the wild flora of New Zealand.
Whether you’re looking for a light, floral sweetness or a rich, robust flavour, there’s a Waitahanui honey to suit your taste.
Our clean and green Runanga Block is home to native New Zealand trees like Kamahi (Weinmannia racemosa) and Rewarewa (Knightia excelsa), which produce honey with a unique texture and flavour.
Native Multifloral honey is packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B6, thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, niacin, zinc, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. It also contains 22 amino acids and approximately 5,000 enzymes, making it a highly nutritious addition to any diet.
Owhaoko is a land that has sustained and provided for those who lived and travelled through the area for centuries. Nestled between the Kaweka and Kaimanawa National Forests, south-east of Lake Taupō, this remote and rugged region stirs awe and respect.
The whenua (land) is held in trust for the descendants of indigenous Māori who once traversed its terrain. As kaitiaki (guardians) of Owhaoko, we are deeply committed to sustainability and the responsible stewardship of this untouched landscape.
Due to the remoteness and inaccessibility of the land, it remains virtually untouched, supporting a rich diversity of native flora and fauna, including rare species in their natural habitats.
Every summer, for six weeks, our hives are airlifted by helicopter into dense Mānuka bush, producing some of the purest Mānuka honey available.
Choosing certified organic honey means choosing a product that is not only good for you but also for the planet. Our honey is free from synthetic chemicals, pesticides, and additives, ensuring you get the purest, most natural honey possible.
By supporting Waitahanui Apiaries, you’re also supporting sustainable farming practices that prioritise the well-being of our bees and the environment.
